Masses of people behind you (literally in many checkpoint cases) certainly helps & staying in the lane of traffic forces the agent(s) to decide much quicker if they think they have the prerequisite level of probable cause to continue the detention or to search abrowncitizen.

The only reason he was not kept there for hours was he did not pull of to the side of the road. The other people behind him on the highway helped ensure protection of rights.  Rights can only be protected with the masses of people.
